I made a project depicting Greenland, I wanted to work with Auto Landscape Materials and Trim sheets and modular assets.
The process through the project.
1. Gaea
I started out creating a height map for the Landscape in Gaea.
2. Auto Landscape Material
After importing and adding the landscape, I started creating an Auto Landscape Material. I watched a tutorial on youtube, and added elements that I needed for the project. Most of the nodes are made in the functions, like the different Masks, which is mostly made by slope mask and world position.
3. Creating and Using Foliage.
Most of the grass is added through Procedural nodes in the Landscape Material, but I have also used the Foliage tools to add grass and stones. The grass minus the tundra flowers have been textured and modelled by me and uses LOD, and one map for Mask, Movement, and SS.
4. Stones/Rocks
I downloaded Stones and Rocks from Bridge Megascans, I use Nanite to save Memory. I add them to the side of the roads and places where the Rock Texture peak through.
5. Road
I use the spline tool in the Landscape section to add the road, I modeled and textures the road. Adding details in Zbrush and baking it in substance painter.
6. Trim Sheet
I made the trim sheet in Zbrush and textured it in Substance painter. It has wood, Stone and Metal on it. I use it for the wood planks, Chimney, Stone edge, Doors and Windows. I use first UV channel for Texture and Second UV Channel for lightmaps.
7. Modular Assets
All of the houses are made of the same 13 Modular assets with different Material Instances, I masked out the trim sheet so I could edit all the elements separately, to make fewer Material Instances.
8. Other Assets
I made some nets, wood plates and roofing plates to create some "trash" around the world.
9. Substance 3D Designer
I made the Net Material, Wall Material and Brick material in Substance 3D Designer.
